Faith Rx’D Camp Summary

Yesterday we ended the first ever Faith Rx’D camp at Crossfit Central. The mission of Faith Rx’D is “To See the world impacted for Jesus Christ by uniting and equipping Christian in the Crossfit community to live and share the Gospel, and serve the needs of others.”

We spent the weekend focusing primarily on 2 different but interconnected parts of our role as Crossfit athletes and coaches.

Firstly, we focused on making attendees better at their craft. Coaches and athletes who are good at coaching and performance are GREAT examples of who our God is. Excellence is an attribute easily seen in who God is and thus in His creation, namely us. Knowing how to snatch well or knowing how to teach a proper muscleup progression make Christians better at Crossfit. Excellence is attractive and it’s one of the main attributes that attracts me to God. In order to be a proper reflection of who made us it is necessary that we mimic and strive for the type of excellence embodied by the Lord.

The second concept we focused on throughout the weekend was uniting other Christians in the Crossfit world together for the purpose of encouraging and equipping them to lead out in their specific context. Crossfit is relatively new to the sports scene. That means that it’s a field relatively untouched by the Gospel. In fact, many of the believers who are a part of Crossfit boxes are still beginning to figure out how to embody their faith while coaching, training, or leading in their gyms. The biggest thing we wanted to see happen after a weekend like this was for other believers to find themselves in a support system with other believers and routinely be challenged to make the Gospel an intricate piece of their gym. God places and uses each of us in very specific places. Crossfit is the new arena God has called many of us to it. It would be a travesty and mis-management of God’s time to ignore our calling. Romans 1:16 reminds us to be unashamed of Him. Matthew 28 doesn’t give us the option of doing Crossfit without the lens of the Gospel. Deuteronomy 4:29 commands that we seek the Lord regardless of our surroundings. We are called to engage and interact with our community, specifically if we are involved with the Crossfit community, for the purpose of God’s glory. To walk in the gym and walk out without considering that challenge is to ignore much of Scripture.

The weekend was phenomenal. I believe we all left empowered and encouraged to be men and women who are faithful to God’s calling and His Word. I pray the peopele who attended will do more than just look back on the camp as a fun event but will see it as a time when God forced them to get out of their comfort zone and be a part of the greater plan God has for their lives.
